Artist Rachel M Cotton shows the journey of a painting from start to finish. Feeling not a little sorry for the rubber ducks in her son's tub, she took them for an adventure in the backyard, snapping photos along the way. One of the photos really spoke to the artist. Here you can see the progression of the artwork from drawing to completion.
Painting in acrylic paints on stretched canvas, Cotton begins with a gridded sketch on canvas. She then lays in color into the solid areas. Cotton's technique attempts to master fat over lean with the use of glazes and dry brush.
A trained illustrator, Cotton attempts to cross the boundaries of fine art vs. illustration by painting illustrative subject matter in a fresh and quirky way. The impact of her paintings on a room are positive and substantial.
