Recent advances in computational modeling combined with efficient tools for data mining now permit us to explore complex biological systems at multiple scales and gain insights toward developing efficient intervention methods.
University of Pittsburgh (lead institution), Carnegie Mellon U, Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies recently established a Center for Multiscale Modeling of Biological Systems (MMBioS), which brings together expertise from different disciplines, from molecular structural biology, to cell modelling, to image analysis to explore the mechanisms of signalling and regulation events at the central nervous and immune systems.
