We came up a new technique that can more than double the space you can explore just walking around naturally - and it is surprisingly simple.
Exploring a world in VR is not always about exploring the virtual world around you, but about exploring an object. The latest VR headsets allow you walk around a few meters, but to explore bigger objects this still might not be enough. So how to move around without breaking presence by teleporting every few seconds? Especially when your users might not have any VR or video game experience at all?
Working with Audi on their VR experience we researched and prototyped different ways to shift the tracking space in the virtual world according to the movements of the user, deciphering his intent on the way to squeeze the feeling of big room exploration in a small sized tracking space.
