Congresswoman Speier (D-CA) took to the floor of the House on Feb. 13 to call out the NRA leadership for weakening our gun safety laws. Here, she goes through a time line to show how the group's lobbyists have unraveled laws that were already on the books. She also tells the story of a former member of the NRA's Board of Directors who benefited from legal loopholes.
He was cited with over 900 violations of federal firearm laws at his shop, the Valley Gun, and 483 crime guns were traced to his shop. This is an NRA board member that violated the laws 900 times and 483 crime guns were traced to his shops. What does the NRA do? The NRA in a subsequent bill banned the tracing of crime guns.
So what happened to him? Well, the only power that ATF was to revoke his license. So what did they do? No criminal charges were ever brought.
