In May 1975, I took my Super 8 movie camera (no sound) to a concert and peace rally called "The War Is Over" in New York City's Central Park's Sheep Meadow, where appeared Phil Ochs, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Peter Yarrow, Paul Simon, Patti Smith, Bella Abzug, Harry Belafonte, Ossie Davis, Tom Paxton, Odetta, American Indian Movement Drummers, David Dellinger, Elizabeth Holtzman, Barbara Dane, Deadly Nightshade, Bread and Puppet Theater, Rev. Fred Kirkpatrick, and Richie Havens. As for this list of performers and speakers, I based it on memory and on a New York Times article reporting on the event on May 12, 1975, the day after. (During the drumming performance I think I also see attorney William Kunstler in the back.) I did not get all the performers and speakers, and I'm sorry to say, I did not get Patti Smith's performance at all! She was up and coming, and it was not a priority, having little film to shoot the day's events. Sad to say, I didn't shoot it entirely in focus, and I had no sound. As of 2016, I have not seen any other visual video or film representation of this concert on YouTube, although, as you can clearly see, there were cameras recording the event, including the video camera recording an interview in front of me in one shot. Please, if you see a performer or anyone you recognize, mention it in comments, thank you!
