A short video explaining what a mixer shower is and some of the things to look out for before purchasing a mixer shower.

Hi, in this video I am going to explain what a mixer shower is and how it functions.

OK, the first thing to know is that all mixer showers connect to the hot and cold water supplies in a property and are ideal for homes with access to plenty of hot water.

As the name suggests, hot and cold water enters the mixer through two inlets and is then mixed inside the shower to achieve the temperature selected by using the temperature control.

How you change the temperature setting to the right level varies depending on the type of mixer shower.

For more information on this, why not take a look at our video "Types of Mixer Shower", which you will also find on this site.

In terms of performance, the flow rate from a mixer shower is dependent on the water temperature and pressure entering the shower. But, on average, they tend to provide higher flow rates than electric showers.

One thing to watch out for -- is that some mixer showers can only be fitted to a low-pressure water system while others are only designed to work with a high-pressure water system.

However, there are also many mixer showers that can be installed to both a low-pressure or a high-pressure water system.

You can find out more about this by watching our "guide to water systems" video,

Or if you'd like further information on features of mixer showers, just take a look our mixer shower features video.
