Last night, December 5th, the owners and regulars of Madiba restaurant in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, released lanterns in honor of Nelson Mandela. The restaurant is named after Mandela: Madiba was Mandela's clan name, one used by many South Africans to signal the deep affection they held for him. Madiba, the restaurant, has become a focal point in Brooklyn for remembering the life of Nelson Mandela.
