If the speed is slowed down you can see how the puck rolled off the cuff and off the left shoulder. If the catcher was left open the puck would have fell into the pocket after bouncing off the shoulder. Take note of how the goalie transitions to a compacted butterfly after the initial save. This ensures that if a rebound occurs, it can not be tapped in through any holes. It also ensures that the puck stays within the body.
