Abstract: We will briefly survey industry trends and techniques for using data to inform portfolio management and active trading.

Bio: Dan Von Kohorn co-founded v2 Ratings, a quantitative investment ratings firm serving hedge funds and institutional investors. v2 Ratings integrates economic models with machine learning to rate securities based on risk-adjusted relative value. Dan is also a co-founder of Beta Fund, an early stage VC fund. He has founded several companies, served as CTO, and been an investor and advisor many times.

Previously, Dan worked for a hedge fund where he developed investment signaling tools for global equity funds for 9 years and ran a commodity fund for 7 years. In 1999, Dan founded ThoughtStore, a web-based market for intellectual property licensing, and began his career as an analyst in the Fixed Income Applied Research Group at JP Morgan Investments.
