The best moments at the Grand Canyon are enjoyed at dusk and dawn, when the Canyon shows its grandiose wealth of shapes and forms.
The two edges of the Canyon, the northern and southern slopes form an enormous biological dividing line. The edge on the other side always seems closer than it really is. The width is usually 16 kilometres, as measured in a straight line. But getting to the other side actually involves a 300-kilometre road journey. The road from the south side to the north side of the canyon leads straight through the Painted Desert. It becomes clear why the Painted Desert has been named the way it has. A long ribbon of colours, laid across a desert which is still inhabited by Navaho Indians. And yet it looks as though there is no sign of life.

The Grand Canyon is an immense gorge carved by the Colorado River into the high plateaus of northwestern Arizona in the southwestern United States. Grand Canyon National Park was established in 1919 and includes nature reserves, plant and animal sanctuaries, Native American reservations and recreational areas.
Officially designated by UNESCO as World Heritage Site, this site is to be safeguarded for the future as a testimony to its enduring past.
