Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200mm f2.0 G IF-ED VR vs Nikon 85mm f1.4G
This is a review of Nikon 's two ultimate portrait lenses. Nikon 200mm f2 g vr VS Nikon 85mm f1.4 G Both lenses are superb performers. They should be both respected. One of them is a heavyweight portrait lens, the other one is a feather weight. Round one: fight!
Technical aspect: Both lenses were used wide open. 200mm f/2 @ f2 and 85mm f1.4 @ 1.4 We made this photo session,on a grey, cloudy, cold day and rain was expected. Therefore we used neither lights nor reflectors.Camera and lens only. Nothing else. Because of this situation there is no catch light on subjects eye. This might lead you to think that the lenses are not sharp enough. But indeed they are. Camera: used Nikon D610 iso: 400 Shutter speed around 1/600 According to my experience with both lenses, i need to say 200mm f2 vr is a winner amongst the two, however it is 3 times more expensive,5 times heavier. Is worth it? If you are a pro earning your money from photography, or if you want to be the owner of a rare lens that will open a new era in your photography and wow the crowds, it is absolutely worth it. Portrait, wildlife, indoor and outdoor sports photography is a joy with this beast. 85mm f1.4G is an epic lens, and it really holds its ground against its heavyweight brother. And for being 3 times cheaper and 5 times lighter, and sucks 2x more light, it is the king of low light, king of bokeh king of 85mm focal length.
