The first President of Republic of Korea (South Korea), Syngman Rhee (1875.3.26 ~ 1965.7.19) delivers the speech (in English) at the U.S. Congress, on July 28th, 1954. This is a private air-check record, made on an aluminium-based 10-inch 78rpm record which I have in my collection. I don't think there is another copy of this recording preserved in any form.
Rhee's English is little bit hard to understand because of his accent. But anyway, it's a priceless historical document.
The Wikipedia article about him ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syngman_... ) is well-written, so there's not much to say about him and his legacy. I, however, have to say this ; he's no George Washington of Korea.
But after all, history is history ; no need to say harsh words to those people of the past. Like the great George Santayana said; "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
