Photoelectrochemical water splitting to produce Hydrogen and Oxygen,we used specially designed Quartz electochemical cell,silicon wafer (semiconductor substrate),platinum wire as counter electode,0.05M H2SO4 as an electrolyte.When we shine light of intensity higher than bandgap of silicon wafer,electron hole pairs are created,which can inturn be used for oxidation and reduction of water into H2 and O2.Recombination of electron and hole can be prevented by suitable doping of substrate. We can clearly see bubbles of Hydrogen produced at the platinum counter electrode,oxygen is evolved at silicon wafer (working electrode).
