Title: Emperor Chien Lung And The Beauty 乾隆皇與三姑娘 Year: 1979 Director: Li Han-hsiang 李翰祥 Casts: Liu Yung 劉永, Pan Ping-chang 潘冰嫦
The fourth adventure of the youthful Ching Dynasty Emperor Chien Lung is one of the best of the series. 28-year-old Liu Yung is back as the sexiest emperor in Chinese history, once again under the guidance of director Li Han-hsiang, renowned master of the costume extravaganza. The year is 1756 and the emperor journeys to Soochow, where he encounters a famous courtesan and gets involved in all types of un-emperor-like activities. Another lady in his life is a Shaolin kung-fu ace, disguised as a man and played by Hui Ying-hung. Variety singled out Emperor Chien Lung And The Beauty for special praise: "Lighthearted in concept, the film beautifully recreates the colorful period of the Emperor's rule...It is definitely one of the better ones."
