No calibration. No tools. Simply two thumbs. :-)
On some older iPhone 4 occasionally occurs a malfunction of the Home Button. You can get the device out of standby mode or exit an app only with very strong pressure. Sometimes the knob is on strike completely. In the web you find numerous tips to help, for example the "recalibration". It's nonsense, because it is obviously a hardware fault. The method is unsuccessful, I have tried it. A really big thing is the hint to reanimate the button with a drop of water. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz2acK...) I've not tried it rather. ;-)
However, I've found out a method that actually works, it's very easy to perform and can be used repeatedly. I think the error occurs because the body is bent after a time, especially if you, like I do, carry the iPhone in the back pocket. The contact with the underlying switch buttons suffers under the bending. Now, bend the body back! It's easy!
