In 2006, David Parkin won Australia's first Operatunity Oz competition, a joint production between Opera Australia and the ABC. He's gone from success to success, recording CDs for ABC Classics, performing in a number of Opera Australia productions, and he's currently performing his debut season in the Opera House as the King in Opera Australia's Aida.

On Sunday night, David was also awarded the 2009 Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship, a great prize for a developing singer which means not only $40,000 in is pocket, but the opportunity to study with internationally acclaimed vocal, language and movement coaches in New York.
