ABOUT THIS PART OF THE EPISODE:
This is the second part of the day I competed against Vincent. Vincent was really good! He had been on for three days, won a sailboat and had the largest dollar amount of prize winnings yet (until I exceeded his record). But Vincent had not been able to win the bonus car round. The producers asked me if I thought I could beat him. Confidently I said, "Yes I can." I was so excited to finally get to have my turn on the show.
Alex can't seem to get the pronunciation of my name right consistently. Lana rhymes with Donna (the way I pronounce it). Alex gets it right some of the time.
HOW I CAME TO BE ON THIS GAME SHOW:
I was attending college at University California Santa Barbara when I told a friend how much I loved the game show, Classic Concentration. He encouraged me to call the number at the end of the show and audition. So I did.
I drove down to Burbank, California in my old gold colored hatchback Honda accord. The 5th gear had gone out in my car not long before so I really needed a new car.
The audition started out with a packet of about 20 - 30 puzzles to figure out that were partly covered up (like on the show). I got enough of them right that I moved on to the next part of the audition which was to do a mock show. I was sooooo nervous and it showed. With some encouragement from the people holding the audition, I managed to calm my nerves and perform well enough to get called back.
When I was called back, I got to meet the producer. I remember him telling me that his wife was Vietnamese and that if they had children they would look like me (because I am half Vietnamese). I could tell he liked me and I knew in that moment, I was in!
While we were recording the week's worth of shows in one day, I sat and waited to be called to compete as I watched other contestants take their turn at playing Classic Concentration. It was Halloween week so we all wore costumes they provided that we got to pick out. I'm "The Woman in Red". Not sure what else to call that costume. :)
I'm so glad my friend, Jonathan (from Ernst & Whinney where I was doing an accounting internship), encouraged me to audition for this show. It was the first time I was on television.
I came out a BIG WINNER!!! And I am so grateful for this experience and my AMAZING LIFE!
Watch the four parts (two episodes) I was on Classic Concentration to find out if The Universe answered my request for a new car.
