Comparison between M5 CHR and road bike with the M5 ridden by a 72 y.o. rider and the chasing roadie being 37 y.o.
This is not a reflection on the ability of the roadie. He is a strong rider who would beat me home if he too was riding the M5. Critics may say that the ride was flat and that recumbents don't climb. That is not true of the M5. We had already ridden some 10 kms through undulating terrain (6-8% climbs) and the M5 kept in touch climbing. If you want speed and comfort for audax the M5 should be at the top of your list. It is the fastest commercially available unfaired bike you can buy and potentially one of the lightest. In triathlons (where recumbents are legal,) you can expect to take 10 minutes off the bike leg. You can lift the chain for commuting. It's 13 kph faster than a road bike for a 250 watt power input on a flat road. I own an M5 but have no affiliation with M5 Ligfeitsen and this video has not been requested or sponsored by M5. I made it because the M5 is incredible fun to ride and lets me ride far faster than I should be able too. I want you to know how good it is.
