Bronislaw Huberman, violinist (1882-1947) and Ignaz Friedman, pianist (1882-1948) play Sonata No. 9 in A, Op. 47 ("Kreutzer"), by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827): First Movement: Adagio sostenuto-Presto
Ignaz Friedman studied with Leschetizky and was one of his greatest pupils as well as being one of the greatest pianists of the Golden Age. Bronislaw Huberman studied with Joachim and performed the Brahms Violin Concerto in the presence of the composer, who was astonished by the young violinist's artistry. In 1936 Huberman founded the Palestine Philharmonic. Toscanini conducted the premier concert on December 26th. In 1948 the orchestra was renamed the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Although Friedman performed chamber music with a number of artists, he only made one chamber recording, the Beethoven "Kreutzer" Sonata with Huberman.
