In this video Lama Zopa Rinpoche explains various methods for making our sleep time most beneficial. As waking up well is dependent upon falling asleep well, and as falling asleep well is dependent upon the cultivation of a virtuous mind when going into sleep, training in the various sleeping yoga techniques is an easy and essential practice. Employing such a simple technique as holding an image of bright light before falling asleep can help us to wake up early and refreshed. Familiarizing with these techniques each night is also excellent training for the time of death. Remembering to fall asleep in the lion posture, for example, will help us to adopt this posture at the death time, preventing rebirth in a lower realm, while familiarizing with a dharmakaya meditation at the sleep time will enable us to take the three bodies into the path at the time of death.
