Beginning July 1st, drivers blowing over .08 blood alcohol concentration will get an immediate license suspension and their car will be seized. The tough new penalties were announced by Transportation Minister Ric McIver in Calgary today. He also announced that all convicted impaired drivers will be required to use an ignition interlock device for up to five years after their suspended license is reinstated. McIver also dismissed criticisms suggesting the new penalties amount to a roadside guilty verdict.
