The Albany Turn heads south, quickly picking up speed to best take advantage of the new 40-mph track through here. Notice the 'DO NOT STOP ON TRACKS' warning flashers activate ten or so seconds before the crossing signals do. Smart move.
The lead locomotive is a former St. Lawrence & Atlantic unit with a horn in need of a tune-up. Unit #2 is courtesy of the Alaska Railroad (#3002). Third in line is a former ATSF locomotive that has been with the Portland & Western since it operated under the Willamette & Pacific name. The fourth and final unit is an old ex-Southern Pacific SD-9, P&W 1851 (built as SP 5360, later re-numbered SP 4326).
