on tides and fathoms (extract)
Film triptych, 2012 Director: Caroline Wright
These beautifully slow and melancholic films create new mythologies and interpretations for the county of Suffolk and form a mediation on the places we go to escape the world. This short extract from the full work, filmed on location in one of the three sites in the film in Suffolk, England is meditative work exploring structures located physically and metaphorically in the margins/at the edges that are holders of an archive of histories. Each film suggests hidden secrets through connected and disconnected clues and objects, within an immersive environment of sound. We see a rag tied to a door, flapping int he wind: a photograph of a woman, framed and positioned carefully on a windowsill: the effects of time on objects, people, memories.
on tides and fathoms was developed during Roaming, an Arts Council funded project led by Escalotor collective ROAM.
