A director has abandoned his film. Part documentary, part fable, THE SKY TREMBLES AND THE EARTH IS AFRAID AND THE TWO EYES ARE NOT BROTHERS is a new feature film by Ben Rivers that combines the Paul Bowles short story, A Distant Episode, with deserted sets and the desert itself. Shot in 16mm against the bewildering landscape of the Atlas Mountains and the Moroccan Sahara, as Rivers' footage excavates through layers of observational and illusionary cinema so the director of this supposed fiction descends into madness and cruelty and misadventure.
