Danza Santa Cruz is a dance group of "matlachines" (as they are called). I started filming since 2001 when I first saw them in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico, during "La Candelaria" festivity which takes place on February 2nd of every year. They are from the village of El Refugio, Zacatecas and they are among the best dancers of this religious style of dance. I like the fact that they are an intergenerational group and that the children are encouraged to contribute their own step patterns. Thus, they have a very extensive repertoire of dance "sones" (songs).
