There are several ways to downgrade. You must know what you are doing before you attempt it, or you could destroy and working PSP. I am not saying this to scare you, but you must know that messing with the firmware on anything can be dangerous.

There are, however, plenty of directions that you can find online that will show you step-by-step how to downgrade your firmware. You just need to make sure that you get the right files for the firmware version that you have. There are different sets of directions and files for different downgraded firmware. So, if you have version 2.x, you have to have directions that go from your 2.x to the version that you want to go to.

Downgrading can be wonderful if you want to be able to install homebrew software and games. It also will allow you to play DVD movies from your memory stick, and unlock all kinds of other things that the PSP is capable of. But, if you don't follow the directions carefully, you can have yourself a good paperweight.

Now, there is a way to downgrade and know that you are going to come out a winner. There are guides on the net that will show you how to make a Pandora's Battery, which in sense, will do the same as downgrading your firmware, but with less chance of messing anything up. The best thing is that you can remove the downgrade at any time if you wish to do so.

There really are two guides to getting this safe way of downgrading. One guide is for the PSP classic, and the other is for the Slim. Some say that you will need an extra battery to do this, but you don't. You can apply this while running on AC power with the wall power supply.

So, if you are new, or if you want to keep your investment safe, you need to mod using the Pandora's Battery method. It is the best way if you want to know how to downgrade the PSP. That is just my opinion, but I have been doing this for several years now.

I have put together a FREE Downgrading Guide that will show you step-by-step how to downgrade . It has instructions for both the Classic and Slim.
