Another rain bearing front is moving towards the country - but this time it's more of a national front rather than a North Island only one. In saying that, the bulk of the rain will fall in the west and north - with lighter falls in the east.

The rain will move into Southland and the West Coast on Saturday and into the North Island during Saturday afternoon or evening - and early Sunday for those in the far east.

By Sunday a brisk south west flow will spread over the country then start to ease around Monday or Tuesday as a high rolls in from the west.

The high should last for much of next week but an easterly flow, and possibly rain, may return to the upper North Island later in the week.
