Mars Rover in 3D

A guided tour of the scientific instruments mounted on the Curiosity Mars Rover, narrated by Dawn Sumner, a co-investigator with the Curiosity science team.

The visuals are based on a CAD model of the rover provided by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, rendered in stereoscopic 3D in front of an actual rover photograph using the Vrui MeshViewer application.

We originally prepared this video for a public talk Dawn gave in the IMAX theater in the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It was the first time we prepared a 3D IMAX movie, and we did it blindly as we were not able to see in in the theater (or any other venue) before the talk. Fortunately, it worked.
