The mortar and pestle used for this exercise is unusually small. The normal size is four times bigger. For this test, we used a mixture of equal parts of pili shells and paper. We also tried other mixtures such as grasses and banana peelings. It was further suggested that we use pili pulp. ..... Still, my impression is that the heavier the briquette, the more power it possesses. So it is a matter of finding a heavy material as filler and a sticky and fibrous material as binder, with all the considerations of costs, access and doability for each recipe.

The briquette press is the micro compound lever press designed by the Legacy Foundation which i found in the you tube as presented by Mr. Lee Hite. I made this one myself from the wood of hamogni (an indigenous kind of tree) as well as an old leucaena (ipil ipil) timber. Construction plans of the press was distributed to the participants during the training.
