Every Labor Day, thousands of folks walk across the Mackinac Bridge between the upper and lower peninsulas. (I brought a Dixieland band along!) Stepped off just after 7 am, when the crowds are thickest. If you prefer fewer companions, wait until 8 or 9 am.
Wheelchair Woman (at 0:32) was scheduled for back surgery on Sept 3. I saw her at the finish...she never needed it.
IF YOU GO: Leave your car at a St Ignace ferry parking lot; they will shuttle you to the bridge approach. (Send your bicycle to the island)
In Mackinaw City, hike a few more feet to a ferry, travel to Mackinac Island, goof off. (Ride bike.)
By the time you return to your vehicle, bridge traffic will be greatly diminished.
N.B. Mind the morning coffee; no restrooms on the bridge.
