Lviv TV presenter and compere Ihor Kobryn introduces legendary Ukrainian singer Valery Marenych at a concert in Lviv in 2008 to mark the 25th anniversary of the group "Lvivski muzyky". In this song he reflects on what he would wish himself at this stage of his life - "Shcho ya sobi pobazhayu". Marenych was born in 1946 in Kryvyi Rih but subsequently moved to Lutsk. Together with his wife Antonina and her sister Svitlana he formed a trio which in the 1970s won great popularity with its interpretation of Ukrainian folk and other songs. At the height of its fame, the Trio Marenych was effectively suppressed by the Soviet authorities because of its association with the promotion of an unregulated form of Ukrainian patriotism. Marenych was restricted to working in Lutsk and the trio managed to reappear again only in the early 1990s after Ukraine achieved its independence. Since 2004 Marenych has been peforming on his own.
