GM VOLT has a lot of lies told about it.
GM could make it now, if they wanted to, casting doubt on their sincerity.
GM bought control of the NiMH batteries, tried to suppress them, then when Toyota used them sold control of the patent rights to Chevron, which then sued Toyota and stopped the production line. The batteries are no longer available, but the cars are still running on them, the Toyota RAV4-EV.
