This is my Feb 2012 Fitness Challenge - max handstand pushups, without training. Obviously when I was a gymnast, I did a lot of handstand pushups as part of my strength and conditioning routine. However, I don't do them very often now - it's in the mix every once in a while, but not something I'm actively working to improve.

The real test will be to see how many I can do at the end of my month of training. I've set a goal of 30 - we'll see how I do! Would love to have you follow along with your own attempts - do as many as you can, then train, and see how much you improve!

If you can do them freestanding, great! Otherwise, try climbing up against a wall. If that's too hard, try working on shoulder presses with free weights till you're strong enough to do them against the wall.
