This shows scenes of the 2001 Kumbha mela festival in Allahabad, during the few days around January 24, during the Amavasya, the new moon when it was the most auspicious day to be there. An estimated 72 million pilgrims attended some part of the 7 weeks of the festival, while 26 million were there for Amavasya.
