"Biting The Apple" is a song set that I started composing in 2013 only to finish it a year later. I found these poems (that the pieces were inspired from) when I went on vacation in 2013, up the coast of California. I stopped in a little bookstore in San Luis Obispo and found a section entitled, "books and poems from local author." After reading through a few of them I came across Jeanie's poems and thought they had great depth- in that they were funny, charming, and had a deeper sub-text- that is obvious sometimes- but not so much other times. I was fortunate over the last few weeks before the premiere to get permission from the author of these poem and was also able to invite her to hear the world premiere of her poems set to music.

Movement 1: Thoughts on Thoughts
Movement 2: Perhaps I dreamed our dog had puppies
Movement 3: At Age Nine

Pianist: Lawrence Escamilla
