The newly installed high-performance computer MOGON at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz provides the German federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate a new national profile in high-performance computing. The state government, the German Research Foundation (DFG), and the universities in Mainz and Kaiserslautern invested a total of almost EUR 5.5 million in the new high-performance computers, thus pushing the state of Rhineland-Palatinate to the forefront of research in this area. In addition, the now available super-fast computing capacity will support and strengthen top-flight research in Mainz and Kaiserslautern, regardless of whether it be in meteorology, genome research, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, or in new materials research.
