Rise and shine with this egg-cellent breakfast scramble recipe that we cooked up using MyPlate.

In June 2011, the U.S. Department of Agriculture introduced the MyPlate icon as a guide to making healthy food choices. MyPlate is divided into sections showing the five basic food groups -- fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy. Think of it as a map for planning your healthy meals!

To make this healthy and delicious breakfast scramble, RENEW LA County Project Director and Registered Dietician Suzanne Bogert followed these steps:

1) Start with ½ cup of cantaloupe, chopped (fruits), or your favorite fruit.

2) For the breakfast scramble, scramble 1 large egg (protein) with ½ cup of green pepper, chopped, and ½ cup of tomato slices (vegetables).

3) Add a side of whole wheat toast (grains). Try to make at least half of your grains whole grains -- it will say "whole" on the package.

4) To drink, pour yourself an 8-oz. glass of cold, fat-free milk (dairy).
