2015 Mayor's Summit on Children - Launch of Family First Initiative

On March 27, 2015, the Tallahassee Community hosted a Summit of business and community leaders focused on early childhood development and investment in families. Over 20 local community partners from both the public and private sector came together to help support the event and over 180 participants from all sectors of our community were in attendance. This event was the kickoff of the Family First Initiative; a community-led effort focused on developing strategies for driving better outcomes for our children and families.

The Summit featured Dr. Craig Ramey, distinguish scholar of childhood development from Virginia Tech, as well as Rob Grunewald, Economist of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, who each offered comprehensive and conclusive cases for why investing in kids is so important for their life trajectory, and our future economy. We also had two panels of local leaders to discuss the importance of investing early in kids from a workforce, public school, and criminal justice perspective.
