5-axis cnc machining process. 3-axis vertical machining center with a 2-axis tilt & rotate trunnion table. NC programmed and post processed in Esprit. Fanuc compatible Haas machine code program.

Please note that another video is also posted for the full simulation for verification of trunnion and spindle clearances.

Process eliminated manual & cnc mill and drill, cnc lathe id machining and grind 0.00040 flatness.

Vendor services for NC programming, tool & fixture design, methods & manufacturing engineering.

Programming time was approximately fifty (50) hours primarily from very reliable import data.

Single stage hydraulic servo valve from a manufacturing engineering turn-key project several years ago for a company wanting to reduce scrap and inventory and lead time off-shore. Customer defined the constraints. Based on that, designed and built the quick change progressive fixtures, the necessary custom tooling, preset tooling assemblies and gauging, and manually programmed it in metric for a 3-axis vertical machining center (VMC). Lot sizes were for 50 parts with 10 inventory turns.

Wanted to know how long it would take to program. So justified programming it in Esprit based on the following.

Currently working on a 4-axis quick change fixture project for VMCs.

Needed a base line part. This one seemed idea. Had several to choose from, but would take more time:

So decided to use it as an Esprit 5-axis training project, using the existing 2d dwg/dxf digital files from the past, and plan to use the Esprit 5-axis program database to import into the 4-axis fixture design project too, killing 2 birds with one stone.

Had the trunnion 3d model from a previous Alibre 3d implementation project.

Have been using Esprit Solid Mill for 4 years. Familiar with Esprit machine setup structure. Especially for 5-axis or more machining centers large and small. The 5-axis Haas post processor was on the Esprit website free to download for licensed SMC users. Do some post processor development. Self taught using training videos. Didn't need it here.

Bottom-line: this software module is good for the price.

And, please note the customer decides from the quotation to use form tools or programmed industry standard end mills with additional cycle time to generate the id contour forms. For illustration view the following video:

Some do, some teach, and some talk. Trust, but verify. It's about the money.
