RussiaToday on Oct 20, 2011 Libyan fighters have taken over Gaddafi loyalists' final holdouts in the Colonel's hometown, with reports saying Sirte has now fallen. These are live pictures from Sirte - where Libya's former rebels are celebrating, regarding the taking of the city as the symbolic last step to victory over Gaddafi. Libyan troops are searching homes and buildings looking for Colonel's loyalists. They've already captured 16 of his fighters, along with ammunition and trucks loaded with weapons. The city's been besieged for weeks - with thousands of civilians trapped in the crossfire. International Relations Professor Mark Almond says the victory could be just the end of the beginning - for both Libya's government and NATO.
