Annotation of a place is a cycle of electroacoustic pieces performed in urban surroundings. The basic idea of this project is rather metaphorical; it could be described as trying to experiment the idea of playing with a memory and a place (here, it's the National French Library), working on it as if it was a book, writing notes, sublinings, or drawing on the margins of its pages.
Audio material : Each sample consist of a small sequence made from sound materials related to the place I'm working on. For example, in the Annotation3, I used sounds from a small window pale (scrappings and hammerings) related to the glass architecture of the library and real time convoluted with sounds of pages of a book and sounds of steps on the floor of the library.
Short technical description: Graphic tablet informations come to the sampler (NI Kontakt3) via Steim Junxion v4. An Eowave MIDI ribbon contols the start and the loop point (when there is one) positions of the played samples ; it is somehow the most important parameter I'm playing with.X axe of the tablet controls key position and pitch bend via curve tables writen inside Junxion and Kontakt. Y position controls filters frequency cut off, filter resonance, velocities and loop lenght (also via Kontakt curve tables). Two smal switches on the pen control program changes. In other configurations, I also use a Roland Midi pedal, game pads or Joysticks via Junxion.
