Each year from January 30th to April 4th, the University of Rochester takes part in "A Season for Nonviolence" to honor the legacy of Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. As part of this initiative, the University of Rochester Carillon Society plays music each Thursday on the carillon bells high above the Eastman Quad in Rush Rhees Library. The music they play is chosen by the M. K. Gandhi Institute and is meant to remind those who hear it throughout the campus to find ways to practice peace in their own lives. Music performed by Kelly Guerrieri and Edwin Tan from "I'll Overcome Some Day" by Charles Tindley (1901) arr. Milford Myhre for carillon (Copyright 1999 ACME) used in video with permission from ACME (http://www.carillon-music.com). Photographic and architectural images provided by University of Rochester Archives, Dept. of Rare Books and Special Collections.
