There’s a faint circle in our wood floors from Annabelle’s pink, plastic shopping cart. She rarely strayed from her path, making countless laps around the kitchen island, easily passing under the edge of the dining room table, over the occasional speed bump that was Lilly’s tail, all the while pushing that little pink cart… until one day, she no longer cleared the edge of the table. I hadn’t (and clearly, neither had she) noticed how tall she had grown, until her breathless screeching from the new knot on her forehead announced it! It was that day, and a thousand more since, that I found myself trying to turn the hour-glass on it’s side. As I watch Annabelle grow up so fast, I’m reminded daily that I, unfortunately, can’t stop time, but what I can do is slow it down to make the most of it and make sure that it doesn’t pass me by.
