Real Madrid emphatically ended their disappointing run of goalscoring form by putting sorry Deportivo La Coruna to the sword in a 6-1 win at the Bernabeu.
Much has been made of Madrid's lack of goals under new coach Jose Mourinho, with just nine scored in their opening seven competitive games, but the floodgates were smashed open on Sunday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo netted first and last, with Mesut Ozil - his first for the club - Angel Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain and an own goal from Ze Castro completing the rout.

Depor, whose only goals in their last six league games stretching back to last season came from two Andres Guardado penalties against Getafe, pulled one back in the 78th minute through Juan Rodriguez but they were already 5-0 down at that point and well beaten.

Despite the swirling rain and blustery conditions at the Bernabeu, the home faithful were in fine spirits at the start of the match following the news that arch-rivals Barcelona had been surprisingly held 1-1 at home by Real Mallorca.

And the Madrid supporters were soon able to revel in a fine attacking performance from their side which, unlike previous games, also included a final product.

Ronaldo got the ball rolling in the fourth minute with a powerful downward header from Ozil's corner, and it was the Germany playmaker who doubled the lead in the 23rd minute.

The summer signing from Werder Bremen looked to have wasted his opportunity as he cut back on his favoured left foot, but the retreating Depor defence could not get close enough to him and his low shot went in off the far post.

Ronaldo saw a shot saved before unbeaten Madrid, who had picked up 11 points from their opening five league games, increased their lead in the 34th minute following a clinical attack.

Xabi Alonso put Higuain away down the left and the striker's first-time cross was perfect for his fellow Argentinian Di Maria, whose bullet header whistled past Manu Fernandez.

Ronaldo and Sami Khedira has chances to put Madrid further ahead before half-time but they could not take advantage.

Those misses did not prevent the Madrid supporters from giving their side a standing ovation as they left the field at the break, though - in stark contrast to some of their recent matches here.

Depor had barely threatened in the first half but they should have pulled a goal back at the start of the second period when Madrid last man Ricardo Carvalho slipped over, leaving Nouioui Lassad one-on-one with Iker Casillas.

However, as Lassad tried to round Casillas the Spain World Cup winner spread himself well to block.

Soon after that Madrid were 4-0 up as Higuain fired home from close range following a good move involving Sergio Ramos, Ronaldo and Di Maria.

Casillas denied Rodriguez in the 55th minute as Depor's lack of success in front of net continued, and then on the hour-mark Madrid added a fifth when Ze Castro contrived to side-foot the ball into his own net.

Ronaldo should have made it 6-0 when he fired into the side-netting with the goal at his mercy, before Depor finally managed to score a goal from open play.

Adrian Lopez's dinked cross to the far post was met by Juan Rodriguez and his header found the top corner of the net.

That was not the end of the scoring, though, and the home side added icing to their victory when Ronaldo stuck his second late on, bursting past Aythami Oliva before drilling a low shot under Manu.
