'Student Lute' (affordable lute) in e' which can be played as a lute or a guitar, if retuned by one semitone, eliminating the need for learning tablature for those who prefer to read notation so alternatively the student electric mandora in guitar tuning is available (see the 'Vectian' channel) Of course learning lute tab will allow you to play a vast amount of lute music that hasn't been transcribed for guitar but at least you have best of both worlds. Many more affordable yet luthier-crafted and customisable instruments in stock or to order at www.jminstruments.com. Most modern lutes are tuned to g' at a'=440Hz but you can still play the same tablature on a lute in e', the intervals are the same just a lower pitch. You could even string this instrument in gut at e' and will be more 'authentic' like the original instrument (MI 54). If you like to play in ensemble this too is an option as a tenor lute, or simply to accompany voice is well suited. There's little you can't do with this instrument, even play baroque lute music in guitar tuning from transcriptions or mandora/gallichon music from 1700-1750's from tablature if not transcribed. Of course in modern guitar tuning any guitar player can play their own compositions or explore moving the frets for various temperaments as some lute players do but in guitar tuning, opening up possibilities for modern music too. This instrument was inspired by one comment made by a guitar player who didn't wanted to stick to notation and not have to learn tab which can be off putting to guitar players who want to play but discouraged by lute tab.
