This is a knitted 'kaleidocycle', or a rotating ring of six linked tetrahedra. It is knit in the round and in one piece, using a provisional cast on and the kitchener stitch to join the ends together.
The hinges are created using intersected knitting - the two sides of the flattened tube pass through one another, i.e. the stitches on one side swap places with stitches on the other. This creates a very straight, sturdy and flexible hinge.
The yarn is Marta's Yarns, based in Melbourne Australia, available online from the Thread Room (dot com dot au).
