This video presents pirouette en dehors by Manuel Legris, Angel Corella, José Manuel Carreño, Herman Cornejo, Daniil Simkin, Ethan Stiefel, and Igor Zelensky.
A pirouette is a turn on one leg. The preparation for the turn generally starts from fourth position. The dancer rises onto relevé with the working leg in retiré position (toe touching the knee). In an en dehors pirouette, the dancer turns in the direction of the working leg. For example, a dancer in fourth position with right leg in back would turn in a clockwise direction.
The clips in this video are from some of the greatest dancers in the world; they make pirouettes look as if they are easy. To the contrary, doing more than 3-4 turns is very difficult, requiring perfect body alignment in retiré position. One small imperfection will cause the dancer to veer off balance, halting the turns prematurely.
