17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje, head of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, in the third part of an interview in Copenhagen 2004. In this final section of the interview HH Karmapa touches on our fear of death and how this affects us. He says "We will lose everything we have in this life and most importantly 'I' will lose 'myself' ... which is the most scary thing." But he emphasises the basic Buddhist beliefs in reincarnation and karma when he says, "It depends what we've done in this life or previous ones whether we have a good rebirth or a bad one." He also gives a unique insight into his position as the 17th reincarnation of the Karmapa lineage when he says "The form changes but the stream of mind is essentially the same." And on memories of his previous lives he states "It is possible to access all the memories but it requires a lot ... of meditation."
