This is an iPhone movie of a fantastic species of giant Tasmanian springtail I've been photographing, around 10mm big. These live in rotten logs and at the edge of pasture, where forest used to be. Apologies for the lack of quality. A lot of the jerkiness is my heartbeat! These are the giants of the springtail world and are unique to old Gondwana- New Zealand, Australia and New Caledonia. When you're used to the much smaller European springtails, it's an amazing experience to see the biggest around. And they're beautiful.
