Bryn will discuss the impact of Islamic civilization on the West, the subject of his book The Genius of Islam: How Muslims Made the Modern World.

This 1 hour illustrated PowerPoint talk will include aspects of Islamic philosophy, art, book arts, music, astronomy, medicine, engineering ; a discussion of how Islamic civilization is presented in North American schools; & suggestions about why the deep historical connections between Islam & the West are not better known today.

Bryn Barnard, a teacher at AIS, is an author & illustrator with 25 years experience creating images for clients that include NASA, National Geographic & Scientific American. He has illustrated 25 books for children & is the author & illustrator of 3 books, all published by Random House. His book "The Genius of Islam" was on the November cover of Booklist magazine & selected as one of its top 10 books on religion published in 2011.
The Genius of Islam also received the top award for non-fiction from the Middle East Outreach Council. The Genius of Islam was published in Arabic in 2012 by Dar Al-Ilm Lilmalayin, Beirut.
